FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FOR WOMEN

We provide individualized treatment to help you meet your wellness goals. However, we do receive these questions more often than others. Maybe they will help answer your concerns.

Do you treat both men and women?

Yes! Both men and women experience a decline in hormones and hormonal imbalance as they age.

Why do I need any hormone replacement?

Hormone Replacement can:

  • Delay the symptoms of aging

  • Reverse depression and anxiety

  • Regain libido

  • Preserve skin and muscle tone

  • Look younger

  • Increase energy

  • Strengthen the immune system

  • Improve physical stamina

  • Cure insomnia

  • Thicken hair

  • Protect against osteoporosis, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease

  • Improve general health

Why are pellets better than patches, shots, or pills?

Pellets contain the pure hormone and are not metabolized into byproducts that will cause side effects or inactivate the testosterone before you use them. This unique delivery system (pellets placed under the skin in the fat of the hip) allows this pure hormone to be delivered directly to the blood stream. Patients are more likely to feel better on pellets than with any other form of estrogen or testosterone replacement.

Do women normally have testosterone?

YES. Women have three times as much testosterone as they do estrogen when they are young and healthy. Women need to maintain normal testosterone levels to be healthy.

What symptoms are treated by estradiol pellets?

Estradiol pellets adequately treat hot flashes, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, dry skin, and thinning hair.

What symptoms are treated by testosterone pellets?

Testosterone pellets treat the symptoms of low energy, loss of motivation, depression, fatigue, muscle mass loss, weight gain, belly fat accumulation, low libido, immune system abnormality, autoimmune diseases, dry eyes, mental decline, loss of exercise stamina, and many other symptoms of testosterone deficiency.

Why do I need a vaginal ultrasound and mammogram?

Prior to receiving pellets, women are required to have a transvaginal ultrasound to obtain a baseline measurement of the thickness of their uterine walls. Follow-up vaginal ultrasounds will allow our providers to measure your uterine health.

Where are pellets inserted?

Pellets are inserted in the upper-outer quadrant of the hip, about 1.5 centimeters below the skin where they can dissolve and be picked up by capillaries.

How long will it take for me to begin feeling better?

In two weeks, you may start to notice that you are already sleeping better. However, it usually takes about 4-6 weeks to get the full effect.

How long will my pellets last?

For women, three to four months is typical. However, each person is unique and may metabolize hormones differently. If you don’t get a lot of sleep, exercise, do stressful work, or participate in athletics, they will metabolize more quickly.

What happens if I stop receiving hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?

You will return back to normal physiology for your age, and experience all of the symptoms you felt before, losing the health benefits that your hormones provide.

What if I begin to bleed while on pellets?

It's not uncommon to experience temporary light bleeding when starting HRT. It is a sign that your tissue is responding. If this does happen, however, let your provider know so that we may address this.

Do testosterone pellets cause breast cancer?

NO. Testosterone pellets improve immune system function so you can fight all types of cancers more easily than before you started treatment. In fact, testosterone has been previously used to treat metastatic breast cancer.

I am a breast cancer survivor. Can I take bio-identical testosterone pellets?

Yes. Testosterone has been shown to improve the immune system's ability to so fight abnormal cell growth.

Will I grow unwanted hair or acne from testosterone?

Testosterone will not cause any more unwanted facial hair growth or acne than what you experienced when you were in your 30’s. There is less chance of excess hair growth or acne with natural testosterone than with synthetic hormones.
